College Loop (4 miles) Click here for a trail map

Take Westminster to Lake Road and make a right. Run briefly on Lake then go down hill to the beach. Run along beach, up hill around to Spring. Left on Spring to Mayflower. Take a left on Mayflower to Illinois. Back up Illinois until it merges with College. Take to McKinley right to Deerpath left into train station.

Lakefront Loop - 6.3 miles

Leave train station north and turn right on Westminster. Stay on Westminster and make a slight right down to beach entrance. Enter beach down the hill and go south along beach to south entrance hill. Pass parking lot and go right until Spring Lane. Make a left on Spring, then another left on Mayflower. Continue past all of the estates on Mayflower approximately 1 mile, until reaching the house with the tower on the left (Elsewhere). Make a sharp left just past the house (before Ringwood) on Walden Road and continue over Walden Bridge. The road becomes Bluff's Edge after the bridge. Take until it dead ends at Westleigh and go right. Pass Circle Lane then make a right onto Walden Lane. Walden spills back onto Westleigh. Cross Sheridan, careful of traffic, and run through the Barat College parking lot until it stops at the Bike Path. Make a right on the Bike Path and return to the train station.

Lake Bluff Loop - 8.0 miles

Lake Bluff Loop – 8.0 miles

Leave train station north on bike path.  Stay on bike path about 2 miles, passing the Lake Bluff train station.  Cross Sheridan on the gravel path, heading east on Blodgett.  Take to Birch and go right.  Make a left on Washington, right on Maple, left on E. Scanton, and right on Sunrise, going around the beach entrance and park.  Make a right on Ravine and take to Moffet.  Go left on Moffett, which eventually becomes Sheridan.  Enter Lake Forest and make a left at Spruce, by the cemetery.  Take to Lake and make a right.  Pass Westminster and go down the beach entrance on the left.  Enter beach down the hill and go south along beach to south entrance hill.  Pass parking lot and go right until Spring Lane.  Make a left on Spring.  Make a RIGHT on Mayflower.  This is different than other loops.  Take Mayflower until it ends at Deerpath and go left.  Go up Deerpath until Hawthorne (on the right) and make a right.  Hawthorne will turn into Westminster.  Make a left and head back to Metra station.

Deerpath Rd. (West) to King Muir Rd. (Last left before Waukegan Rd.) (Stay on the sidewalk on Deerpath please!!) Left on King Muir Rd. to Mellody Rd. Left on Mellody Rd. (stay left at first street on left) to Ridge Rd. (this is a tricky spot - be careful) Right on Ridge Rd. CROSSING Rt. 60 CAREFULLY!! Picking up Ridge Rd. again just to the East on Rt. 60. South on Ridge Rd. to Old Elm Rd. Left on Old Elm CROSSING Rt. 41 CAREFULLY. Continue East on Old Elm Rd. to Green Bay Rd. Left on Green Bay Rd. to Linden Ave. Right on Linden Ave. (East) to Beverly Place. Right on Beverly Place to Morningside Left on Morningside Drive to Old Elm Rd. Left at Old Elm and CROSS Metra Tracks with a quick Left at Bike Path (North) - HYDRATION STATION (7.0) North on Bike Path to McCormick Drive Cut-Off (approx. 1/4 mile). Take a right onto McCormick Dr. heading East to Walden Lane. Cross Westleigh Rd. and follow Walden Lane over to Barat College. Re-Connect with Bike Path and head North to Metra Station

Lakefront Bridge Loop - 10 miles

Leave train station north on bike path. Stay on bike path about 2 miles, passing the Lake Bluff train station. Cross Sheridan on the gravel path, heading east on Blodgett. Take to Birch and go right. Revised Old Mill Loop - 10.8 miles

Leave train station and go south to Deerpath west. Take Deerpath to Green Bay and make a left. Continue on Geen Bay, carefully crossing Westleigh until it ends at Old Elm. Make a right on Old Elm, carefully crossing 41. After crossing 41, take a left on Ridge. Continue to Old Mill Road and make a right. Old Mill will dead end at a small trail. Take the trail over the bridge, go past the Old Mill Farm, and make a right on Kathryn. Take a left on Kurtis, which circles around and becomes Jennifer. Go to Evergreen and make a left, coming out onto Everett. Make a right onto Everett, cross onto the opposite side of the road until it makes a fork with Old Elm. Stay to the left of the fork, which is Everett and continue to Ridge. Make a left on Ridge and go until it appears to dead end at Route 60. Veer slightly left as you carefully cross Route 60 and pick up Ridge again. Take to the 3 way fork in the road and veer slightly right on Melody. Continue to DeerpathRoad and make a right, going under Route 41. Make the first right after 41 onto Ahwahnee Lane. Take it to Ahwahnee Road and go right. Curve around and the road becomes Onwentsia. Take Onwentsia past Green Bay until it dead ends at Western. Make a left and briefly run on Western until you can pick up the bike trail at Ryan. Continue on bike trail until the train station.

Lakefront Bridge Loop & Old Elm Extension - 13.0 miles

Make a left, instead of right, on the bike path. Take to the end, which is Old Elm. Turn around and return to the train station.

Military Loop (revised) - 17.5 miles

Leave train station north on bike path. Stay on bike path, passing the Lake Bluff train station. Continue to the Great Lakes Metra Station. Turn around and head back on bike trail. Take to gravel crossing at Blodgett. Make a left and cross Sheridan, heading east on Blodgett. Take to Birch and go right. Make a left on Washington, right on Maple, left on E. Scranton, and left onto Mountain which will spill into Sunrise, Head down Sunrise going past the beach entrance and park. Make a right on Ravine and take to Moffet. Go left on Moffett, and then take first right on Sylvan. Take Sylvan west, looking at the ravine on your right, to Evanston. Take a left on Evanston to Sheridan Place where you take another left. Heading east on Sheridan Place to Moffett where you will take a right. Go South on Moffett which eventually becomes Sheridan. Enter Lake Forest and make a left at Spruce, by the cemetery. Take to Lake and make a right. Pass Westminster and go down the beach entrance on the left. Enter beach down the hill and go south along beach to south entrance hill. Pass parking lot and go right until Spring Lane. Make a left on Spring, then another left on Mayflower. Continue past all of the estates on Mayflower approximately 1 mile, until reaching the house with the tower on the left (Elsewhere). Make a sharp left just past the house (before Ringwood) on Walden Road and continue over Walden Bridge. The road becomes Bluff's Edge after the bridge. Take until it dead ends at Westleigh and go right. Pass Circle Lane then make a right onto Walden Lane. Walden spills back onto Westleigh. Cross Sheridan, careful of traffic, and run through the Barat College parking lot until it stops at the Bike Path. Make a left, instead of right, on the bike path. Take to the end, which is Old Elm. Turn around and return to the train station.

 

Big Kahuna 20.9 miles

Leave train station north on bike path. Stay on bike path, veering left at fork before the Lake Bluff train station (1.8 mi). Follow path west paralleling Route 176 for > 3 miles. Pass Waukegan Road, Glendale Woods, and Lambs Farm. Stay on path under I-94. Turn left on path just past I-94 and before Jamaica Gardens into forest (5.6 mi). Folow trail left at first fork and traverse clockwise around the lake. Pass the sled hill and continue to shelter. Make a left on the trail, take through the parking lot, and then back on the trail. Cross road running through Old School, through forest, cross road again, then continue on trail south through Old School Woods. Make a left at the fork at the south end of Old School Woods (7.5 mi), cross street and train tracks, continuing south on trail. Trail continues to the Route 60 bridge. Go over Route 60 if bridge is flooded. Continue south on trail behind retail area and through open fields. Cross another bridge, enter Wright Woods and go to four way fork. Make a left and go through picnic area in Wright Woods. Make a left onto Wright Woods entrance and continue to Everett Road (12.4 mi). Go right on Everett and run on the left side of the road for several miles. The West Lake Forest train station will be just off of Everett, just before Waukegan (15.1 mi). Cross Waukegan and stay on the left of Everett when it forks with Old Elm. Take Everett until it ends at Ridge Road and make a right on Ridge, then a quick left on Old Elm (16.6 mi). Continue east on Old Elm, cautiously crossing 41, and take it to the bike trail (18.3 mi), across from the Mobil station. Make a left on the bike path and return to the train station.

The Barrington Course (approximately 8 miles)

1. Leave the high school and turn left on Hart Road (0.2 miles)
2. Turn right on Main Street (0.2 miles)
3. Turn right on Old Hart Road (0.5 miles)
4. Turn left on Oak Knoll Road (2.4 miles)
5. Turn right on Ridge Road (0.8 miles)
6. Turn right on Merri Oaks (0.75 miles)
7. Turn right on Buckley Road (0.8 miles)
8. Turn left on Oak Knoll Road (1.7 miles)
9. Turn right on Old Hart Road (0.5 miles)
10. Turn left on Main Street (0.2 miles)
11. Turn left on Hart Road (0.2 miles)
12. Turn right into the high school

Notes:
5. There's no street sign at Oak Knoll and Ridge, but it's a "T" intersection. You can look for the "Private Road" sign on the north side of Ridge, it lists several addresses on Ridge that may be accessed via the private road.

8. There's no street sign at Buckley and Oak Knoll, but it's a "T" intersection. You can look for the "Private Road" sign on the west side of Oak Knoll, it lists several addresses on Oak Knoll that may be accessed via the private road. You ran along this part of Oak Knoll on the way out, so you may recognize it.


There's a Starbucks on the east side of Rt. 59 about a block south of Main Street for after the run. Also, an Einstein's is about a block away. You can buy Gatorade at the Citgo gas station on the corner of Route 59 and Main Street

The Barrington Course (approximately 12.5 miles)

1. Leave the high school and turn left on Hart Road (0.2 miles)
2. Turn right on Main Street (0.2 miles)
3. Turn right on Old Hart Road (0.5 miles)
4. Turn left on Oak Knoll Road (2.4 miles)
5. Turn right on Ridge Road (0.3 miles)
6. Turn left on Spring Creek Road (1.5 miles)
7. Turn right on Braeburn Road (1.3 miles)
8. Turn right on Plum Tree (1.6 miles)
9. Turn right on Ridge Road (0.55 miles)
10. Turn left on Merri Oaks (0.75 miles)
11. Turn right on Buckley Road (0.8 miles)
12. Turn left on Oak Knoll Road (1.7 miles)
13. Turn right on Old Hart Road (0.5 miles)
14. Turn left on Main Street (0.2 miles)
15. Turn left on Hart Road (0.2 miles)
16. Turn right into high school


Notes:
5. There's no street sign at Oak Knoll and Ridge, but it's a "T" intersection. You can look for the "Private Road" sign on the north side of Ridge, it lists several addresses on Ridge that may be accessed via the private road.

8. There's a guard rail at the corner of Braeburn and Plum Tree that is a good Gatorade drop. There's no obvious sign for Plum Tree (there's a small one around the corner on a telephone pole). After you turn right from Braeburn, there's a three way fork in the road. Keep to the right, Plum Tree is the rightmost fork.

9. There's no street sign at Plum Tree and Ridge Road, but you'll run up a big hill then down the other side. Ridge Road is a "T" intersection at the bottom of the hill.

12. There's no street sign at Buckley and Oak Knoll, but it's a "T" intersection. You can look for the "Private Road" sign on the west side of Oak Knoll, it lists several addresses on Oak Knoll that may be accessed via the private road. You ran along this part of Oak Knoll on the way out, so you may recognize it.
