We are a running club for distance runners. Runners interested in training for half and full marathons should consider us. As we enter our second decade, the North Shore Distance Running Club has successfully trained hundreds of runners to run their best marathon or half marathon. Cumulatively, our members have completed well over 600 marathons. This vast wealth of knowledge and experience has been recognized by CARA, who has chosen to partner with the NSDRC for their Winter and Summer Marathon Training Programs. We conduct training programs for half and full marathons year round, targeting a local race in the spring and in the fall. We have runners training from 8 minutes per mile to over 12 minute miles. Of course, you are welcome to join us for the social and fitness benefits, even if you aren't planning on running a marathon or half marathon.

Starting on May 15, we meet every Saturday at 6:45 am in Parking Lot C of the Old School Forest Preserve in Libertyville. We will continue there in off season mode until June 12, at which time we begin our marathon training program. This is geared around the Chicago and Milwaukee Lakefront Marathons. Each week, we have suggested training distances, depending on level of experience, following Hal Higdon’s marathon training program. We run in pace groups from 8:00 per mile up to 11:30, with experienced group leaders heading up each group. Hydration is provided at the start and on the course. We strongly encourage runners to use a water bottle with hydration belt during the runs. Our annual dues are just $25, with a $5 discount for current CARA members. Please print out the  New Member Information Sheet and  Waiver form, complete them, and bring them to any run to join. Membership includes the training program, supervised long runs with hydration on the course, and camaraderie on the runs, along with in season clinics and an end of season celebration.
